The WC qualification tournament didn’t bring what I’ve hoped for. Malta never gained a point and that was the minimum I hoped.
After Belgium gave us a piece of our mind in the first game 12-0, we were immediately faced up to the facts; no proper preparation and a weak competition are killing on this level.
Despite the fact that we made a better impression in the second game, we also lost this one 5-1 against Sweden. So the intented point we had to gain, was in the last game against Armenia. Despite an extra training and a good tactical preparation we came off worst with 3-1.
Conclusion: every game the result became better which means that when you have good practice games throughout the year, you’ll have a bigger chance to get the first points ever. Youth (national) teams amd a strong competition have to strenghten this. Work to be done for the MFA to set this up otherwise you will always have these results on tournaments.
