The five-day visit to Madrid and Barcelona was, in cooperation with UEFA, part of an exchange programme aimed at developing and improving futsal further in Asia based on a confederation-to-confederation exchange of information.
The visit under the AFC Futsal Development Programme kicked off with a meeting with the Spanish Futsal League (LNFS), with its President Javier Lozano welcoming the AFC delegation.
“The LNFS has a vision and we want to be a reference to push the world of futsal (forward), not only to be the best in Spain but to help develop futsal throughout the world,” said Lozano in his welcoming address, which was followed by presentations by the league on its marketing, competitions and communications structures to the AFC delegates.
The AFC delegation then visited the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) headquarters where its President Angel Maria Villar Llona gave them a warm welcome.
A meeting was held with RFEF Futsal Committee President Antonio Escribano, RFEF Futsal Secretary Jose Javier Saiz Sedano and representatives of the RFEF’s various futsal-related departments.
The RFEF made a number of presentations to the AFC delegation underlining their competitions, national team management and referees structures.
AFC Director of Futsal and Beach Soccer Development Ali Targholizade, who led the AFC delegation, thanked the LNFS and RFEF for their hospitality in Spain.
The AFC delegation team then made a presentation to the LNFS and RFEF on the current status of Asian futsal, highlighting all its competitions, components of the AFC Futsal Development Programme and the progress of the Asian game. Both LNFS and RFEF were impressed with the depth of the AFC’s competition and development activities.
The AFC delegation also visited current LNFS champions Inter Movistar, one of Europe’s pioneer futsal clubs, with a visit to UEFA futsal club champions FC Barcelona also on the agenda.
Both are established futsal clubs with outstanding infrastructures and management as well as sound academy programmes for young players. The delegation will also have the opportunity to watch a match between FC Barcelona and Aspil Vidana in Barcelona.
The AFC delegation will continue the AFC/UEFA Benchmark study with its last programme with UEFA in Switzerland having started the programme in Russia
